Professional Studies 3- Tetritects

Project Brief

Professional Studies 3 was split into 2 sections, an individual submission of a 9 page limited reflection on our views of what it means to be an architect, what we imagine the future of architects and the RIBA/ARB looks like, as well as a critical reflection on our previous years Professional Studies 1 (Weir Mill) and 2 (The Merseyway) projects. A second group submission made up the remainder of the project, a group of 8 students were required to create a fictional practice with a business plan that outlined our approach to how we would run a practice, what we would specialise in and why it is important, as well as providing a 3 minute video to promote our firm.

Tetritects

Our group created the firm 'Tetritects', our proposal being to produce designs for affordable housing schemes using recycled materials as the main component in a mission to tackle climate change and minimise waste, as well as reducing costs through the use of unwanted material to keep prices affordable. We devised a simple website design that allowed clients to pick and choose their house typologies, construction method and type of site that they could submit to us, then our designers would use their preferences to design a building for their plot of land, providing an estimated carbon calculation and encouraging developers to look into typologies that encourage biodiversity on their site. The main clients would be developers, however the site is simple enough to use that any interested party may contact us through it.
